About Us

We didn’t set out to start a brand. We just loved jiujitsu.

We met on the mats, two people from very different paths who found a shared obsession in the art of grappling. One of us came from the world of science, holding a PhD in Pharmacology. The other had a mind for games like chess, always looking for patterns, strategy, and ways to stay three moves ahead. Jiujitsu gave us a space where both our minds could thrive.

What started as training partners quickly turned into long conversations about pressure, timing, control, and how a simple grip could change everything. We realized we weren’t just practicing a sport. We were studying a scientific art. A theory of movement and submission.

To us, jiujitsu feels like human chess. Every movement is deliberate. Every transition is a calculation. It’s not just about strength or speed, it’s about knowing when to wait, when to act, and how to adapt under pressure. That mental side of jiujitsu? That’s where we live.

Mat Theory Apparel was born from those late-night training sessions, post-roll breakdowns, and a shared belief that the mental and physical aspects are both key to success in the gentle art. We wanted to create a brand for people who train with intention. Who study the game as much as they play it.

We work hard, we think harder, and we show up. Every day. Again and again.

This is our theory. Welcome to the (calculated) chaos.
